Regin Bornschein founded Transom Contracting in July of 2026.

With roots in construction dating back 3 generations, its practically in my blood to build. My great grandfather was on the crew that connected the Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsulas of Michigan with the legendary Mackinac Bridge, and my grandfather after him was a leading developer in the Grand Traverse region. Together he and my mother built somewhere around 600 homes and condos in the area.

As the 4th generation in the family I plan to continue their legacy of excellence and precision. With over 5 years of hands on experience working along side my father, there isn’t much I haven’t seen. Several decks, dozens of window and door replacements, a few roofs (including one steel), a ground up garage build and addition, a sauna, the list goes on. I may not have done it all yet, but part of the fun in this industry is taking on new challenges. My mother raised me with the motto that “everything is figure out-able”, and I try to live by that.

I can’t help but approach building with the perspective of building homes, not just houses. I love leaning on the details, and learning how to best turn the materials we have into the dreams of a client. These are more than buildings, they’re the hosts of many of our greatest memories. There is nothing better than the feeling of stepping back from a completed project and being able to say “that’s awesome”, and knowing that a family will appreciate it for generations.
